LONDON CALLING

London is my favourite city, I have been there often and spent quite some time in England in the past. This special connection with the city, the country and its people I have obviously passed on to my daughter Alena who is now studying at London College of Fashion. 

While I was visiting her these days, I had the pleasure meeting the gorgeous Beata of Fashion Adventures At Any Age. I love Beata's elegant and sophisticted style and meeting this wonderful and warmhearted woman has been such a pleasure! 

Of course we also took the opportunity for some photos when we met up with our daughters at Café PAUL near Covent Garden in the heart of London.

What's your favourite city?

London ist meine Lieblingsstadt, ich war sehr häufig dort und habe insgesamt eine ziemlich lange Zeit in England verbracht. Es ist eine besondere Verbindung mit dem Land, der Kultur und den Menschen und ich habe viele Freunde in England. 

Diese Liebe habe ich ganz offensichtlich meiner Tochter weitergegeben, denn Alena studiert jetzt am London College of Fashion. Als ich sie dieser Tage besucht habe, hatte ich auch Gelegenheit, Bloggerin Beata von Fashion Adventures At Any Age endlich persönlich kennenzulernen! Zusammen mit unseren Töchtern haben wir uns im netten Café PAUL in der Nähe von Covent Garden im Herzen Londons getroffen. Es war ein ganz besonderes Erlebnis, diese wunderbare und unglaublich warmherzige Frau endlich persönlich kennenzulernen, nachdem ich ihren Blog schon lange lese.

Und natürlich gibt es kein Bloggertreffen ohne ein gemeinsames Photoshooting!

WHAT TO WEAR WHEN TRAVELLING IN NOVEMBER

Travelling has always been part of my life, not only when I worked in the airline business for almost 15 years. That includes the most exotic places in the Far East, trips to Africa, the States or Mexico, beach holidays in the Mediterranean or city tours in Europe... by the way, I have done quite a few on my own!

The last couple of weeks have been a constant packing and unpacking of suitcases. First Portugal, followed by the Tchibo Blogger Event in Hamburg last week and right now I am in London.

How do you travel in the grey, cool and rainy month of November as a blogger who aims to be comfortable yet presentable? Think of long walks from the car to the terminal, security checks where you have to take off your coat, scarf, jacket, belt and boots and finally fully booked flights in Economy Class!

My Travel Look

Trenchcoat

It is leight weight, trendy, practical and in a neutral colour which can easily be combined with almost every outfit.

Cross Body Bag

This bag keeps your hands free when you shop at the duty free or wait at passport control. It is also safer wearing a handbag in front of your body. If you are travelling on a low cost carrier with strict "1 carry-on only", a small handbag can be squeezed into a tote.

Big Scarf

I always wear or take a big scarf or pashmina shawl with me to keep me warm especially with aircondition on board.

Shoes

Because of the season and bad weather, I wore boots with low heels. Usually I take an extra pair of ballerinas with me.

Trousers

Preferably stretch trousers for convenience. Black is always a good and versatile option. 

I never wear jeans for travelling! An old airliner inside rule said you won't have a chance for an upgrade wearing jeans... well, in black trousers I wasn't successful either ;-)

Neutral colours

Baggage weight restrictions limit what you can take with you. As I always struggle with packing light, I try to stick to neutral colours which are easier to combine for different outfits while en route. Style them with more colourful accessories or jewellery.

Long-haul flights naturally require an even more careful planning and packing, especially when you visit different climates.

Reisen hat schon immer zu meinem Leben gehört, nicht nur da ich fast 15 Jahre bei einer internationalen Fluggesellschaft gearbeitet habe und sehr viel gereist bin. Rund um die Welt in unzählige exotische Länder Asiens, mehrere Reisen in die USA, Afrika und Mexico, Urlaub am Mittelmeer und zahlreiche europäische Städtetrips gehören dazu.

In den letzten Wochen bin ich nur am Koffer ein- und auspacken, erst Portugal, danach zum Tchibo Blogger Event nach Hamburg und zur Zeit bin ich in London.

Was trägt man auf Flügen im grauen, nasskalten November, wenn es praktisch sein und doch schick aussehen soll? Touristenlook mit Rucksack und Turnschuhen kommt für mich nicht in Frage... 

Lange Wege vom Auto zum Terminal, aufwändige Sicherheitskontrollen, bei denen man gerade im Winter vom Mantel, Schal, Jacke, Gürtel bis zu den Stiefeln alles ausziehen und danach wieder anziehen muss und schließlich enge, volle Flüge in Economy!

Mein Reiseoutfit

Trenchcoat

Relativ leicht, praktisch und ein Klassiker, dennoch immer trendy. Die neutrale Farbe ist einfach perfekt kombinierbar.

Cross Body Bag

Ideal um die Hände an der Passkontrolle oder beim Duty Free shopping frei zu haben. Außerdem ist es sicherer, die Tasche im Gedränge vorne zu tragen. Ich nehme immer eine Reisetasche mit, am besten faltbar und man kann ggf. eine kleine Umhängetasche reinstecken - wichtig bei Billigfluglinien wie z.B. easyJet oder Ryanair, die eine sehr strikte Handgepäckregelung haben.

Schal

Ich habe immer ein großes Tuch oder auch einen Pashminaschal dabei, die in der Maschine oder bei zu kalter Klimaanlage sehr angenehm sind.

Schuhe

Aufgrund des Wetters hatte ich mich für flache Stiefel entschieden. Normalerweise habe ich immer ein paar leichte Ballerinas zum Wechseln dabei.

Hose

Am liebsten mit Stretchanteil, Schwarz ist meist meine erste Wahl, sieht schick aus und passt immer.

Ich trage beim Fliegen nie Jeans! Alte Airliner-Regel: Wenn Du Dir die Chance auf ein Upgrade nicht völlig verbauen möchtest, trage keine Jeans! 
...ich habe allerdings in den letzten Jahren trotzdem nie ein upgrade bekommen ;-)

Neutrale Farben

Langweilig oder nicht, jedenfalls kann ich diese Töne bestens untereinander kombinieren, denn ich schaffe es sowieso immer wieder, an die maximale Gepäckgrenze zu stoßen! Daher lieber mit farbigen oder gemusterten Accessoires stylen.

Auf Langstreckenflügen gilt es natürlich noch viel mehr zu beachten, vor allem wenn man in ein anderes Klima reist.

After my blog has been mentioned in the Wall Street Journal last week I received another boost when I got notified via Twitter that I am part of the mature bloggers featured on High 50!
